Natalee Holloway’s Friends Recall ‘Psychopath’ Joran Van Der Sloot Following Them
Natalee Holloway’s disappearance is being investigated in Sunday’s new Reelz special, “Natalee Holloway: Her Friends Speak,” and the victim’s companions recall seeing Joran van der Sloot in an exclusive International Business Times clip.
Alabama honors student Natalee Holloway was on a school trip in Aruba in 2005 when she suddenly disappeared. In the video (seen above), Natalee’s friend Mallie Tucker recalls seeing Joran van der Sloot throughout the last night Holloway was seen alive. Private investigator T.J. Ward notes that van der Sloot had a $50,000 line of credit, and teacher Bob Plummer adds that they just assumed he was another guy at the casino.
“Jaron came in and [Natalee] was sitting next to him at the casino. And she was talking to him and he was like a total creep,” Tucker remembers.

No one thought much of a seemingly creepy guy approaching a young tourist at a casino. However, Holloway's classmates left the casino and van der Sloot followed.
“Everyone left and went to dinner…and that friend saw Jaron again,” Tucker recalls in the clip. “It was like he just kind of followed the crew—almost like he’s done this before for a group of people coming to Aruba, [a group of] young women.”
Holloway’s friends recalled seeing him throughout the night as “a constant.” Tucker continues, “So we realized that Jaron was definitely there. People remembered that Jaron was there the whole night.”
Of course, Tucker emphasizes that they had no idea what he was capable of. “But we didn’t realize who we were dealing with. We were dealing with a psychopath,” she says.
Joran was never convicted of Holloway’s murder, but he was sentenced to 28 years in prison after killing Stephany Flores Ramírez in Lima, Peru, five years to the day after Holloway disappeared. He was convicted for the murder just one day after Holloway was legally declared dead.
In addition to Tucker, Ward and Plummer, “Natalee Holloway: Her Friends Speak” includes more from Holloway’s friend Claire Fierman, former secret service agent Arthur Wood and another teacher, Cary Plummer. The Plummers were the chaperones on Holloway’s school trip.
“Natalee Holloway: Her Friends Speak” premieres Sunday, May 31 at 9 p.m. EDT on Reelz.
