Natalie Portman On Being Nominated For ‘Jackie’ For The Golden Globes 2017: ‘I Feel Very Lucky’
Natalie Portman has a lot to say about her role in “Jackie,” especially after receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy, the wife of assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The Oscar-winning actress showcases the life of Mrs. Kennedy following the days of her husband’s assassination in 1963.
“A lot of people [tell me] they so rarely get to see a woman on screen have so many different aspects of her portrayed,” Portman told Entertainment Weekly after being nominated for Best Actress, “It’s not just a simplified male gaze; they allowed her to be a real human being … I had superficial knowledge of her before taking on the role; I knew about her style and her hair, [but now I consider] her as a human being, and I understand the resilience, intellect, and willpower.”
‘[‘Jackie’ shows] a woman being incredibly powerful, intelligent, creating her own narrative, and authoring her own story,” the 35-year-old Israeli actress later added.
As to her recent Golden Globe nomination for playing the former First Lady, the “Black Swan” actress said, “I feel very lucky that there’s a group of women I get to experience this with,” she said, referring to her respect of sisterhood in the industry. “I’m like a fan around them … it’s the women I look up to the most — even the ones who are younger than me! It’s the best part of the process; I get to spend time with them, because we never get the chance to work together.”
Portman is no stranger to the Golden Globes, having won two already. Will she receive a third in 2017?
Besides her professional achievements, the Jerusalem-born actress is currently expecting her second child with husband Benjamin Millepied.
