Pizza comes in different varieties but nothing beats the popularity of the classic cheese pizza. Fast-food lovers are more drawn to it because it has an abundance of cheese and wears a crown of savory toppings.

While there's no debate when it comes to pizza's appeal among the masses, none really knows the cult dish has a day assigned to it. The National Cheese Pizza Day, which falls on Sept. 5, celebrates the tasty treat and encourages us to have more pizzas.

Pizza traces its origin back to Ancient Greece when people used to dot their bread with oils, herbs and cheese to enhance the taste. However, Italy was credited with creating the first-known flatbread pizza, by using the ethically sourced buffalo mozzarella.

Pizza, the powerhouse of taste, was first introduced to the Western world in 1905 when the first-ever pizza joint in NYC, Little Italy, opened to diners.
