National Day Of Cowboy was proclaimed to honor the Cowboy culture, which originated in Mexico, found its way into the American heartland, and gradually gained momentum. The day is celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of July to encourage people to do their part in preserving the rich cowboy heritage.

Cowboys are characterized by their distinct choice of food, clothing, language and the set of cultural values that they thrive on. The primary reason why cowboys, the hat-wearing and mounted rowdy lads became an integral part of the American culture was that they played a major role helping settlers in Western America by helping to run the ranches, the large tracts of lands where herds of animals, including elk, bison, ostriches, emus, and alpacas are raised.

History of National Day of Cowboy:

The day was initiated in the year 2005 by the organization National Day of the Cowboy (NDOC) proposed a bill in the Wyoming House in favor of preserving the rich cowboy culture and history in that state. The bill was passed and other states also followed the state in passing NDOC in their legislatures. July 25 has since come to be celebrated as a holiday.
