Naya Rivera Update: New Clue Amid Search Efforts And What It Could Tell Investigators

Since July 8, authorities have been attempting to locate Naya Rivera following the former "Glee" star's disappearance. After taking a boat out on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, with her 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, many have tried to find information that could reveal what happened to the 33-year-old.

Now, a new clue has emerged amid the ongoing investigation that could shed new light on what potentially took place. According to Us Weekly, a photo was taken during the aforementioned boating trip that could potentially help lead them in a new direction.

"There was a picture sent to a family member that showed the boy on the boat by a cove," Robert Inglis of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue Team told the publication in an exclusive interview, adding, "We found where that cove was."

As for what specific information the photograph could reveal, a timestamp shows that it was taken 90 minutes to two hours before Josey was discovered on the rented pontoon boat. However, investigators have yet to report that the additional details have led to any new developments regarding Rivera's whereabouts.

After explaining that the time and location gave authorities a starting point prior to the search efforts being expanded, he then indicated that the search is still ongoing.

"We did send our dive members to those two locations and searched those extensively," he said, later adding that in this particular case it "really could be the whole lake," as there are "a lot of coves that have to be searched."

Other difficult hurdles have also presented themselves over the course of the investigation, including poor visibility. At this time, Inglis has indicated that he is confident that Rivera's body will eventually be located and offered a working theory of what he believes could have taken place in Lake Piru.

"What I suspect is that the winds kicked up. Those pontoon boats are very light, and when you push them, it can get away from you. She might’ve tried to swim after the boat. But that’s all speculation. Once we do locate her, that’ll answer a lot more questions," he said.
