‘NBA 2K17’ Shooting Update Makes Shots Easier For Some, Harder For Non-Shooters
NBA 2K17 server-side shooting updates keep on coming, and the latest one seems to take vocal fan feedback into account. 2K gameplay director Mike Wang detailed how shooters and non-shooters should be different following Friday morning’s tweak.
The unnumbered shooting update offers “a slight boost” to shooters while hitting non-shooters with an overall nerf. To be more specific, a player’s buff or nerf status following the update directly correlates to ratings. The closer a player is to 99, the more boost they get. In general, don’t expect your Slashers or blockers to have the same range they did before this patch.
This update arrives to address a controversial shooting tweak that went live about two weeks ago. In attempt to better match each athlete’s shooting accuracy with their overall percentage and to test mechanics for 2K18, some drastic alterations took place. However, instead of increasing the game’s sim elements as intended, the revision backfired. Suddenly, reliable guys like Carmelo Anthony could barely get an easy two points.

Wang responded by polling his Twitter followers about how shooting should be fixed, and this update seems to fall directly in line with the results of that questionnaire. A boost to shooters and a nerf for non-shooters was exactly what the hardcore audience demanded. As expected, the general feeling about the new patch has been mostly positive.
As the NBA season comes to a close, small tweaks like these may be the last adjustments we ever see for NBA 2K17. With E3 about a month away, we expect to be hearing more about NBA 2K18 soon. Typically new series entries are shown during Sony’s press conference, but, given the title’s confirmed Nintendo Switch port, we might see some footage from Nintendo as well.
NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
