  • College senior Remy Martin has reportedly committed to the Kansas Jayhawks
  • The point guard is expected to test the NBA Draft waters
  • Martin played four years for the ASU Sun Devils

Former ASU guard Remy Martin will "test the NBA draft process" before making a decision whether he stays in college or turns pro, according to a report by The Athletic.

The 6-foot senior averaged 19.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists for the ASU Sun Devils in the 2020-21 college basketball season.

Martin recently transferred to the Kansas Jayhawks per the report, a move seen to boost his draft stock by playing for a better contender to showcase his wares.

"He doesn't have a lot more to prove at the collegiate level, and pro scouts are probably never going to be all that excited about a 6-foot guard with an inconsistent outside shot," The Athletic's Brian Bennett noted.

"Still, if Martin wants a chance to go deep in the NCAA Tournament, something he didn't experience at Arizona State, then joining Kansas makes sense. NBA teams always like winners and playing for a highly respected tactician like [Kansas head coach Bill] Self can't hurt his development."

The backcourt star is already eligible to enter the 2021 NBA Draft, which takes place on July 29, having completed four years in college.

Martin is a four-star recruit ranked 85th by ESPN100 in 2017. He is currently projected anywhere from being a second rounder to being undrafted.

The 22-year-old prospect has until July 19 to withdraw his name from the draft.

Martin, who is of Filipino heritage, had his name float around the Philippine basketball circles as early as 2018 when then-national team head coach Vincent "Chot" Reyes included him in a wish list.

The Philippines is co-hosting the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and the squad has since been preparing to form the best roster possible.

Another Filipino draft aspirant, the 7-foot-2 Kai Sotto, signed with Australian NBL club Adelaide 36ers after his failed stint with G-League's Team Ignite.

Both Martin and Sotto are big names in the Philippines, with the basketball hotbed hoping they would eventually join Utah Jazz sixth man Jordan Clarkson as active Filipinos in the pros.
