NBA Draft Rumors: LaMelo Ball An Asset For Any Team, Expected To Be Selected First Overall
KEY POINTS
- The Ball family has always made themselves known to the basketball world
- Lonzo Ball was the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft
- LaMelo Ball is projected to go first in this year's draft
The Ball family has risen as one of the more popular names in basketball. Whether it’s for the talent of their children or for the notorious remarks of LaVar, the family has always found their way to the headlines.
Lonzo was taken as the number 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He was hyped mainly through his days at Chino Hills and as a UCLA Bruin. Despite his unorthodox jump shot at that time, he possessed remarkable court vision and passing ability.
These attributes make Lonzo an advantage for any team to have much like what his little brother LaMelo can bring to the court. The two are compared to one another with the similarities of what they bring to a team. LaMelo has the passing, and court awareness much like his brother. But to add to these, he is also a more prolific ball-handler and hoists and converts shots more than Lonzo.
The youngest Ball brother spent the last season in the National Basketball League Australia as a member of the Illawarra Hawks. He averaged 17 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. While he’s a ball-dominant guard, he can take some load off in any team’s starting point guard’s duties in facilitating the offense.
The Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers are projected as the possible first pick of the upcoming draft. Ball is scouted to be a tremendous passer and if he’s drafted to the Warriors then he can easily find the shooters scattered across the floor. The same goes if he’s drafted to the Cavaliers, as he’ll be able to feed the ball inside to their big men – plus he adds to the team’s shooting.
Regardless of the squad who gets him, he’ll have value either way. His six-foot-seven frame coupled with exceptional playmaking skills is enough for any team to consider him as a valuable asset – whether for rebuilding the franchise or for trade.
