NBA: Golden State Warriors President Told Players To Prioritize Families First, Basketball Second
KEY POINTS
- Golden State Warriors was advised to take care of their families
- The team is at the bottom of the standing with 15-50 record
- NBA season has been postponed since March 11 due to coronavirus situation in the league
Golden State Warriors’ president reminded his players that after all, they have their own families to protect against the unseen enemy.
Bob Myers shared a small piece of advice to the entire Warriors team in dealing with coronavirus that forced the NBA to indefinitely suspend their remaining games as the regular season is just about to conclude. The Warriors may not be in the contention for the title this year but they are still making sure that his team will win the battle outside the court by protecting their players’ core in each of their homes.
"Follow the rules. Be a person. Be a civilian. Be a member of the community. Take care of your families. Prioritize that. We will get to basketball later," said the former player agent via reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The NBA decided to stop the remaining games for an indefinite amount of time a couple of weeks ago after learning that Utah Jazz’ center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, the first case in the NBA. Utah’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder was canceled before tip-off after learning the situation and both teams were quarantined.
After Gobert, several other players tested positive for the virus. Some of the identified names are Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell, Detroit Pistons’ Christian Wood, Brooklyn Nets injured guard Kevin Durant, and Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart. Other than the Nets, the Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers opted not to reveal the names of the players and support team that tested positive for coronavirus – Brooklyn reported that they have four players who tested positive but only Kevin Durant was identified.
Golden State is at the bottom of the standing with a 15-50 win-loss record and is unlikely to advance to the next round. The team had to deal with the injuries of stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, with the former breaking his hand four games into the season and the latter tore his ACL during their last season’s NBA Finals series against the eventual champions Toronto Raptors.
