The eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies pulled off an upset win over the Utah Jazz, 112-109, in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round playoff match-up on Sunday.

The Jazz led by double-digits in the second quarter before the Grizzlies clawed their way back and locked their opponent down defensively to 43 first-half points.

Memphis led by as much as 15 although they had to fend off a late Jazz comeback attempt to survive.

In the third quarter on the TNT broadcast while the Jazz were trailing, analyst Reggie Miller spoke about how regular-season records do not mean anything entering the post-season.

"What have Utah done? Yeah, you had a great regular season but you haven't done anything in the playoffs," the Hall of Famer said.

The Jazz finished with a West-best 52-20 record.

The Indiana Pacers legend doubled down in the fourth quarter, praising Memphis.

"They're just out-playing them on both ends of the floor," he added when the Grizzlies extended their lead up to double-figures.

Dillon Brooks had a phenomenal showing for Memphis, scoring 31 points while Ja Morant added 26.

Bojan Bogdanovic led Utah with 29 points, while Mike Conley contributed 22 points and 11 assists.

To their credit, the Jazz played the series opener without Donovan Mitchell, who was ruled out with an ankle sprain.

Neither the Grizzlies have proven anything yet except for taking a 1-0 lead, and Utah have all the opportunities in the world to bounce back and prove Miller wrong in the end.
