NBA Rumors: Celtics Coach Could End Up Jobless; Hoosiers Post No Longer Available
KEY POINTS
- The Hoosiers name former Knicks coach Mike Woodson as their new head
- Brad Stevens may have a few options if he is fired by the Celtics after the current NBA season
- The Celtics have been faltering, a reason why most see Stevens getting the walking papers
Brad Stevens knows that his future with the Boston Celtics is not looking so good, given that the team has not improved according to expectations.
Word got out that he may be going back to college coaching, possibly taking over the Indiana men’s basketball team.
It was an option in the event he is axed by the Celtics at some point. However, all that is now irrelevant with the Hoosiers naming former New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson to call the shots from hereon.
Woodson is a Hoosier alum and played under the famed Bobby Knight during the 1970s, ESPN reported.
Before the announcement that Woodson would be the Hoosiers next coach, Stevens was the rumored top applicant for the post.
However, the 44-year-old rebuked rumors and said he had no interest in leaving the Boston Celtics. Despite those claims, murmurs grew rampant. But each time he was asked about it, he would shoot it down.
A reason why these Hoosiers coaching stint grew is because of the Celtics' performance this NBA season.
As of this writing, the Cs are at the No. 7 spot of the Eastern Conference with an even 23-23 win-loss late. Compared to past seasons, Boston has floundered despite having stars like Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown.
Celtics president Danny Ainge is allegedly not pinning the blame on Stevens, but an evaluation at the season’s end may negate all that.
It remains that Boston has not been getting anywhere with Stevens, a reason why pundits feel that he could be given the pink slip after this season.
For now, there is work to be done. Some feel that Stevens may have lost some of his voice over at Boston, and this is something that will make it harder for him to make the most out of the remainder of the season.
Boston was linked to several names before the NBA trade deadline but ended up with Evan Fournier from the Orlando Magic.
Though critics feel that this is a soft deal, there are others who think otherwise. The Celtics got added firepower, but beefing up their frontline was seen as more necessary.
The names of Al Horford and Andre Drummond were suggested, but all that is now academic.
Horford is sitting out that rest of the season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and his future will be determined in the offseason.
Drummond, on the other hand, has reportedly signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. It was a development most had expected, further whittling down options for other teams–including the Celtics.
