Julius Randle started out his NBA career on the wrong foot, but the former Kentucky Wildcat finally showed what he can do when given the proper opportunity.

After toiling with the Los Angeles Lakers for four years, the 24-year-old saw his stock rise when he moved to New Orleans. And with Anthony Davis imminently moving out, it would initially make sense that the 7th overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft would remain with the Pelicans.

That would all depend if he picks up the player option of his deal with the Pels. According to AZ Central, Randle could opt out and test the waters this NBA free agency to potentially land a better deal. Seeing how he upped his numbers to 21.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last season, there is no denying that teams could pitch him a better offer. If he opts in, Randle will earn about $9 million with the Pelicans.

One possible destination for the burly power forward is the Phoenix Suns. According to Arizona Sports 98.7, Randle and the Suns seem to have a mutual interest - aside from the fact that Phoenix has been already previously linked to the Dallas, Texas native. A possible reason for this is because the Suns are looking for the right personnel to back up resident star Devin Booker. Both Randle and Booker are from Kentucky.

Further, Randle opting out makes a bit of sense. With the Pelicans expected to use the rights to the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft on Zion Williamson, he could see his playing minutes affected at some point. While he could still be the starting power forward, one good game for the incoming rookie changes the complexion entirely. And if Zion lives up to the hype, Randle is likely to opt out or ask for a trade at some point anyway.

One thing that Randle holds over Williamson and other incoming freshmen is the experience. He has been around to know what it takes to survive in the NBA and he has already shown semblances of promise. For the Pelicans, a Randle exit could be another whammy since their frontline would lose two valuable stars. As far as the Suns are concerned, pursuing Randle will not be easy. Seeing his potential, other teams are expected to monitor his decision and offer him deals as well heading into the 2019-20 NBA season.
