NBA Rumors: Golden State Warriors May See Killian Hayes As A Draft Option
KEY POINTS
- The Golden State Warriors are anticipated to have a lottery pick in the NBA draft
- Multiple prospects such as Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball have been linked to the Warriors
- Killian Hayes is seen as another possible option for Golden State as he's drawn comparisons to D'Angelo Russell
The Golden State Warriors have fallen as the dominant team of the decade to a lottery selection in the upcoming draft. Amidst the talk of selecting Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, Killian Hayes has also emerged as a possible choice for the Bay Area team.
It has been a unique campaign for the Warriors in the past year. A series of injuries and roster changes have brought the franchise in the unique predicament as the favorites to win a top-five pick in the draft.
The 2019-2020 season features a completely new look for the Warriors as their current roster has a different set of players from their championship days. The biggest blow to their team was how the splash brothers were ridden with injuries. To add to these troubles, Kevin Durant opted to leave for the New Jersey Nets while veterans Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston have parted ways with the team.
With everything that has happened to the Warriors, they still remain as a squad to watch as they’re looking to boost their lineup even more through the draft.
Speculation has revolved around several players such as Edwards and Ball as the best choices for the Warriors. Other experts, on the other hand, have rumored James Wiseman or Obbi Toppin as better fits.
Adding to these prospects includes six-foot-nine Onyenka Okongwu who can fill up the stat sheet with averages of 16.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.
While these top prospects appear to be a good fit, the American-French guard Hayes has found himself standing out in the Warriors rumor mill. The lefty guard drew comparisons to D’Angelo Russell who recently had a brief stint with Golden State.
The agility and explosiveness of Hayes coupled with his court vision may be what the Warriors need as they bounce back in the succeeding seasons. Couple his raw talent with the experience he will receive with the splash brothers can mean tremendous growth for the 18-year-old.
While plans are not certain for the Warriors’ front office, it would be interesting to see how Golden State approaches the upcoming draft.
