  • Kevin Durant has been training for his NBA return this season
  • Eyewitnesses are convinced Durant has returned to his prime form
  • Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash vows to be careful about playing the two-time Finals MVP

Observers who have witnessed Kevin Durant in training camp are convinced that he has fully recovered from his injury and is now back in his prime form.

Durant was last seen in action during Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals, where he ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg. Roughly 18 months after the devastating injury, the Nets superstar appears to be ready for his NBA return.

The two-time NBA Finals MVP has been training this offseason, and unnamed eyewitnesses have recently told Sports Illustrated that they didn’t see any glimpse of post-Achilles injury in Durant’s game.

“He didn’t look like Kevin Durant after an Achilles injury,” one witness described. “He looked like Kevin Durant. He was all the way back (in his prime).”

The Nets are set to play the Washington Wizards in their first preseason game Sunday. The team hasn’t confirmed yet if Durant will play, but the 10-time NBA All-Star recently revealed what newly-appointed Nets Coach Steve Nash has plotted for him.

According to Durant, Nash is likely to do some sort of experiment on his return to see where he would be best suited inside the court.

"I think Coach [Nash] is going to use me in a variety of ways, especially as a small-ball 5 and 4 sometimes," Durant told ESPN. "And bringing the ball up, too, so I've just got to be ready for anything."

"Coach is just going to throw me out there and see how I respond," he added."

Durant joined the Nets in July last year and teamed up with fellow NBA champ Kyrie Irving. The pair will finally play together this season, and Durant is already optimistic about possibly becoming championship contenders once again.

"We've got champions on this team," the 2014 NBA MVP pointed out. "We've got guys who have been in playoff runs, been in Game 7s, so it's always important to have that much experience and knowledge within the group. We'll see where we go from here."

Nash, on the other hand, admitted that he would still be monitoring the progress of both Durant and Irving, who only played 20 games last season due to a shoulder injury.

“There’s been such a layoff for both of them,” Nash said in a press conference earlier this month. “In particular, Kevin [Durant] coming off one of the toughest injuries to deal with as a basketball player. We have to be careful with him and his adaptation process back into the game.”
