KEY POINTS

  • Bogdanovic could move to a new team for next season
  • Kings expected to match offers for Bogdanovic
  • Bucks ready to spend big on Bogdanovic

Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Sacramento Kings will become a restricted free agent this NBA offseason and teams are expected to make lucrative pitches.

Teams in the league know what the Serbian brings to any squad although the Kings can match any offer for as long as it is reasonable. One club that could give it a try is the Milwaukee Bucks.

After a disappointing 2019-20 season, the Bucks are expected to skim the market for the best talent available. Though they were the top-seeded brigade in the recently-conclude NBA playoffs, the Bucks failed to replicate their Eastern Conference Final appearance during the 2018-19 season.

Giannis Antentokounmpo was the main guy in the regular season, a reason why he was adjudged the NBA MVP for the second year in a row.

But sorely missing was the support, with only Khris Middleton rising to the occasion. Milwaukee will be looking to add a third superstar, and The Athletic reports that Bogdanovic could be that guy.

But of course, plucking the Serbian from Sacramento will not be that easy. He is one of the best players on the club, averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 61 games for Sacramento per Basketball-Reference.com.

However, the Kings are stacked in the shooting guard position, something that new general manager Monte McNair may have to address.

Aside from Bogdanovic, the Kings also have Buddy Hield jockeying for the position. Sacramento may consider moving one of the players. But such a move will not be easy for the Kings.

Meanwhile, the Bucks don’t have the luxury of available cap space and the only way to spend more is to go over the luxury tax.

It appears Milwaukee management is ready to spend beyond what they can to make sure they get that third superstar to combine with Antetokounmpo and Middleton, NBC Sports reported.

Hence, all eyes will be on McNair who took over from Vlade Divac. The Kings have yet to reap any success under Luke Walton – someone who is also under the radar.

If the 40-year-old coach fails to weave the same magic he showed when he temporarily called the shots for the Golden State Warriors in 2015, he could be the next coach getting the ax.
