- One possible fit for the LA Lakers' is Ricky Rubio with his ability to handle the ball and facilitate the playmaking duties of the team
While the NBA remains to be suspended, the offseason ideas from different teams remain abundant. The latest possible scenario speculating involves the LA Lakers finding a quality playmaker in Ricky Rubio.
The Lakers are currently on top of the Western Conference with a 49-14 record. Prior to the suspension of the league as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus, the Lakers were among the few teams to clinch a playoff berth. Things were looking bright for the Lakers as this would have been the first playoff series for the Lakers since the 2012-2013 season.
Despite their incredible run led by MVP candidate LeBron James and dominant big man All-Star Anthony Davis, there’s still much the Lakers could do to improve. Just this year, one of the biggest criticisms that the LA has received was how their roster was not deep enough.
Another concern that was pointed out was the lack of a consistent backup playmaker of the team. While LeBron has led the team in assists with 10.6 a game, the team’s second-best playmaker is Rajon Rondo. There’s no question that Rondo has made a name for himself as a tough and experienced point guard. But his minutes and time on the floor haven’t been near his All-Star days.
Per Lake Show Life, a trade idea involving Danny Green for the services of Phoenix Suns starter Ricky Rubio is a point to consider by the front office. The Spaniard Rubio has always been one of the more consistent players in the league. While he hasn’t lived up to the superstar hype he had when he entered the NBA, he has without a doubt tallied a solid career.
Having Rubio’s presence on any squad will be tremendous as the veteran point guard has been one of the more phenomenal playmakers in the league. He isn’t near the athletic guards that are dominating the highlight reels but his efficiency to handle the rock is elite. He’s been known to make players around him better as mentioned by All-Star Devin Booker.
Coupling Rubio with dominant names like LeBron and Davis could spell trouble for teams in the future. It would be interesting to see how the offseason would pan out for the Purple and Gold in the future.
