NBA Rumors: Milwaukee Bucks Shopping Thon Maker To Multiple Teams
The players likely to move on to new teams are slowly growing, with Thon Maker the latest name in potential NBA trade talks. The 21-year-old has hardly gotten playing time with the Milwaukee Bucks, and word out is that he will likely be dealt off soon.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks have discussed with several teams about a potential trade involving the Australian-South Sudanese. Maker is healthy but uncharacteristically did not play when the Bucks won over the Washington Wizards recently, 131-115.
Looking at Milwaukee's past games, Maker has not been fielded in. In seven contests, he has only played a total of four minutes. From the looks of it, the former lottery pick would be better off dealt with another team where he could have a bigger role, according to the Bleacher Report.
Drafted 10th overall by the Bucks in 2016, Maker has averaged only 13.3 minutes per game. For the season, he has averaged only 4.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 11.7 minutes. He has come off the bench in all 35 of his appearances in 2018-19 after making 46 starts during his first two seasons.
Maker's contract runs until the 2019-20 NBA season amounting to $3.6 million. Though he has been struggling to show what he can really do with limited playing time, the 21-year-old can still rise and show teams in need of a big man.
However, the road towards continuing his career in the NBA may need some extra effort. Although he does stand 7-foot-1, the fact remains that he needs to prove he belongs in the company of bigs such as Anthony Davis, Fansided reported. His height is expected to keep him in the league for a while, but he needs to find a team where he can blend in nicely.
Among the teams that Maker could end up with include the Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat or even the New York Knicks. These are teams currently on rebuild mode. At his age, he could grow together with the younger players that these teams are trying to mold.
Souped up teams could also consider Maker but as a back-up at best. There are teams like the Golden State Warriors, who need someone to play inside. Hence, it may all depend on what Maker wants in the end -- playing time or NBA ring.
