Normally, rookies need to get over the hump after a successful maiden year. The NBA is no exception, seeing how some previous top picks debuted with a blast before they come crashing down back to earth on the second year. This is something that Marvin Bagley III will have to deal with as he enters his second year with the Sacramento Kings.

Bagley, the second overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft, made quite an impression in his rookie years despite critics feeling the Kings could have gotten someone better. This is with reference to Luka Doncic, the sensational guard who made quite a splash as well with the Dallas Mavericks. Regardless, the 20-year-old did not disappoint and put up numbers that indicate that the 6-foot-11 is destined for greatness.

Looking at his averages via ESPN, Bagley normed 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game before the All-Star break. Like most rookies, it was a struggle for the former Blue Devil who did not get ample playing time until the NBA mid-season. This was the point where Bagley rose to the occasion, upping his numbers to 18.5 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Outside the figures, it seemed pretty clear that Bagley was tailor-made for the Kings since he can adapt both offensively and defensively for Sacramento.

Ironically, it was Bagley's offense that was seen as the key to unleashing his true potential, the Ringer reported. He has shown that he has an outside shot, making him a rare offensive weapon who can play both inside and outside. At his size, most would expect him to be the rim protector and defensive presence that any coach would marvel at. With Luke Walton now calling the shots, it will be interesting if Bagley can flourish further.

Obviously, Bagley needs to make further adjustments for the coming NBA season. He shone brightly under the watch of Igor Dave Joerger and will once again try to fit into the system of Walton. The sophomore jinx may be in play for Bagley, same with others like Doncic. But for as long as he keeps his focus and sticks to the determination burning inside of him, there is no question that the former second overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft could be the next big star the league has to offer.
