NBA legend and one of the greatest dunkers of all time Shawn Kemp spoke about the best duos in history and 90’s Supersonics being the original “Lob City.”

During his prime, Kemp was regarded as one of the most electrifying in-game dunkers in the league. Together with Sonics star point guard Gary Payton, the duo has entertained the fans with their spectacular alley-oops.

When Chris Paul came to the Los Angeles Clippers, he teamed-up with former Clippers star Blake Griffin. Paul and Griffin took the NBA by storm with their highlight worthy alley-oops during game. In the process, the two earned the Clippers the nickname “Lob City.”

However, in a recent interview with Dd Hache’s “What’s The Skinny,” Kemp addressed their 90’s Sonics’ position at the NBA’s greatest duos. According to Kemp, he thought Paul and Griffin made a great combo to be dubbed as Lob City. But he and Payton in the 90’s were the “original Lob City.”

“I thought that was a great combo. They use to call them Lob City, and we were the original Lob City,” Kemp said of Paul and Griffin duo.

Back in 2011 NBA Slam Dunk contest, Kemp already commented on Griffin’s over-the-car dunk trick. Surprisingly, Kemp wasn’t too impressed with Griffin’s stunt and has said that it might have been the “weakest dunk he has seen” in the dunk contest in a long time.

The dunk legend even noted that Griffin pulled off a creative idea but he should have at least jumped completely over the top of the car. Kemp also boasted that at 41 years old, he can even jump over “two smart cars.”

Kemp then revealed that the first duo to teach them a lesson in the NBA were Utah Jazz’s John Stockton and Karl Malone. As far as Kemp can recall, Malone taught him some lessons in his early years which he definitely learned from.

“First of all, we learned from Stockton and Malone. They were two teachers, and they beat us down early in our careers. I love Karl Malone. There were some growing pains, but he taught me some lessons that I definitely learned from,” Kemp revealed.

The other notable duo who also gave them a hard time were Los Angeles Lakers’ Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. Kemp described Kobe and Shaq as a “tough duo to beat” especially when they were playing them in LA.
