COVID-19 has continued to change the lives of people around the globe since its emergence in Wuhan, China. Now, NBC News contributor Dr. Joseph Fair has revealed that he too has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Following his diagnosis, Fair gave an update on his condition and what he hopes people will continue to do moving through the pandemic.

On Wednesday, the NBC News personality tweeted a photo of himself wearing an oxygen mask inside a hospital as he gave his followers an update on his condition.

"My friends wondering where I’ve been: I came down with #COVID19 & am hospitalized. I’m on the other end of it, but not out of the woods yet. Please continue to social distance. I used max precautions, but still managed to contract it. Back as soon as I’m able, friends. #StaySafe," he wrote, as seen in the post below.

According to People, the doctor then appeared on "Nightly News with Lester Holt" on Wednesday night to elaborate a bit more on what he has privately been dealing with in recent weeks.

During the conversation, Fair, who previously spent years in Africa studying deadly viruses like Ebola, stated that even he makes mistakes when it comes to staying safe amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

He then revealed that he believes it is likely that he became infected with COVID-19 while on a crowded flight to New Orleans, which has become a hotspot in the U.S.

"I had a mask on, gloves on, wipes routine, but you know obviously you could still get it through your eyes," he said during his time on "Nightly News." He then stated that he knows that we can all get through the pandemic, but added that it is imperative that we take it seriously.

Aside from Dr. Fair's personal struggle, COVID-19 has continued to affect news organizations in other ways as well. Previously, CNN's Chris Cuomo, "60 Minutes" host Lesley Stahl, and "Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanopoulos revealed they had all tested positive as well. Additionally, the current health crisis has also changed the daily operations of news programs, as several "Today" personalities have decided to fulfill their on-air appearances remotely.
