Prior to obtaining her NBC anchoring role, Guthrie held a variety of other positions along the way. After graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in journalism, she entered the world of broadcast news. After relocating to Washington, D.C., she began offering her talents as she covered "a number of major news events, including September 11th, the Anthrax attacks, and the Michael Jackson trial."
However, she then pivoted away from the world of news and went back to college in order to obtain her law degree from Georgetown University. After doing so, she began appearing as a legal correspondent for NBC News in 2007 and working as a White House Correspondent between 2008-2011. Eventually, she also worked on MSNBC and began co-anchoring "Today" with Matt Lauer prior to his 2017 firing.
As for how Guthrie has reportedly spent part of her income, Apartment Therapy reports that she had previously owned a Tribeca loft that she had purchased with her husband, political consultant Michael Feldman, for $3.8M in 2012. In 2019, the couple had then placed the space, which had floor to ceiling windows and a built-in bar, back on the market for $5.995M.
"Today" has remained a topic of conversation itself outside of the news that it presents to viewers each morning. As a result of the current health crisis caused by the ongoing pandemic, both Guthrie and Al Roker decided to fulfill part of their NBC appearances from their homes in recent weeks. Kotb herself has also discussed COVID-19 in recent months, including what she has found to be "incredible" about self-isolating.
