Is NBC’s ‘The Enemy Within’ Renewed Or Canceled For Season 2?
UPDATE: May 30, 4:19 p.m. EDT -- NBC’s “The Enemy Within” was officially canceled on Thursday, according to TVLine, which means there will be no Season 2 of the Morris Chestnut-Jennifer Carpenter drama. The Season 1 finale, which aired on May 20, now acts at the series finale, as well.
Original story: “The Enemy Within” ends Season 1 tonight with a big finale episode, but the show’s future remains uncertain.
With every episode leaving fans wanting more, tonight’s should be no different, and viewers will want to know if the Morris Chestnut-led show is canceled or renewed for Season 2. Unfortunately, NBC isn’t giving out that answer just yet.
The network’s already decided the fate for some of its shows and announced its fall 2019-20 TV schedule, but a few series remain in limbo, including “The Enemy Within,” “The Village” and “AP Bio.” This shouldn’t cause concern, though, because they’re all midseason shows, and the network could be looking to keep them that way.
Instead, the ratings are important to look at when trying to gain insight into which direction NBC’s leaning.
For “The Enemy Within,” it currently has an average rating of 0.75 in the 18-49 demo and 4.412 million average weekly viewers, according to TV Series Finale. Of 20 scripted NBC shows, it’s right in the middle at number 10 in the demo and at spot seven in average total weekly viewers.
While fans wait for NBC to make a decision about a Season 2 renewal, tonight’s Season 1 finale (episode 13), titled “Sierra Maestra,” finds the CIA spread thin as it continues its fight against Tal (Lev Gorn).
“Tal’s war on the CIA expands to two fronts,” according to the synopsis. “Keaton [Morris Chestnut] and the Cointel team must locate the domestic target before Chigorin [Dale Pavinski] launches an all-out assault on the unsuspecting innocents.”
The synopsis continues: “Shepherd [Jennifer Carpenter] convinces Keaton to let her go to Cuba to thwart Tal’s attack on Sierra Maestra, the CIA’s secret detention center imprisoning his operatives. Shepherd’s ever-shifting allegiance raises the question if she is there to stop Tal or join him.”
Find out where her loyalties lie when the Season 1 finale of “The Enemy Within” airs on NBC on Monday at 10 p.m. EDT.
