A 66-year-old man from North Carolina was sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison this week, after authorities discovered he had amassed a collection of over one million images and videos of child pornography.
Christopher Mark Wilson, of Cary, was sentenced to 100 months in prison Wednesday followed by 10 years of supervised release for receipt of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina (USAO-EDNC) said in a statement released on the day of the sentencing. He previously pleaded guilty to the charges on July 8, 2020.
Prosecutors described Wilson as a "prolific collector" who used computers to receive and collect the material over a span of 17 years, according to the USAO-EDNC statement uploaded to the Department of Justice's website.
Wilson was employed by the State of North Carolina and was arrested at a state information technology building at Wake Forest Road in May 2019 on 18 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, WECT reported.
Police in Washington State made a similar arrest in May after a 35-year-old man was discovered to have possessed "vast amounts of extremely severe content," which included child pornography, on his electronic devices.
William Dobson, of Bellevue, was arrested for possession of child pornography following an investigation that started in mid-March. Authorities executed a search warrant at Dobson's home located at the 1800 block of 129th Place Southeast, where they unearthed over 1,000 child pornography images and videos on multiple devices he owned.
At least 800 of those files had identified child victims, according to police.
The pornographic materials found included videos and photos of pre-teen and very young children being sexually abused, records showed.
"This case is extremely disturbing, both in the vast number of images and in the severity of the depictions," Capt. Debbie Ingram of the Bellevue Police Department was quoted as saying.
King County prosecutors charged Dobson with first-degree dealing in depictions of minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct and possession of depictions of minor engaged in sexually explicit content.
Dobson allegedly admitted to the police during an interview that he was addicted to child pornography. Additionally, he claimed to not have committed any hands-on offense against any minors.
