NCAA Tournament Bubble 2022: Odds For Indiana, Michigan, Others To Make March Madness Bracket
The March Madness hopes of many college basketball teams rest on their performance in their conference tournaments. The 2022 NCAA Tournament bubble features a few marquee teams that are hoping to salvage what has been a disappointing season by advancing to the Big Dance.
The Big Ten Tournament will have a significant impact on the final NCAA Tournament bracket as a pair of traditional powers are on the bubble. Indiana is at risk of missing out on March Madness, while Michigan is not guaranteed to be part of the tournament.
ESPN’s Joe Lunardi lists Indiana as the first team out of the NCAA Tournament at the start of the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers have +200 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook to clinch a spot in the bracket. Indiana’s -250 odds to miss March Madness suggest that the team will likely come up short.
The Hoosiers might need to win multiple games in the conference tournament to get off the bubble. Doing so would damage Michigan’s chances of earning an NCAA Tournament bid since the two rivals will square off Thursday in their first Big Ten Tournament game.
Michigan was ranked No. 6 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll. Going 17-13 overall with an 11-9 conference record, the Wolverines have not performed like a national title contender. Michigan is a -700 favorite to make the NCAA Tournament with +475 odds to miss the field of 68.
The Wolverines finished eighth in the conference. Indiana is the Big Ten’s No. 9 seed with a 9-11 conference record.
Michigan reached the Elite Eight last year. Indiana last made the NCAA Tournament in 2016.
Florida has been a staple of March Madness, but the odds are against the Gators in their quest to make a fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in six years. Florida has +650 odds to find their way on the bracket. The Gators are overwhelming favorites at -1100 to miss the tournament.
The Gators were ranked No. 14 after a 6-0 start. Florida lost six of their next nine games as the schedule got more difficult. In a very competitive SEC, Florida went 9-9 for a ninth-place finish.
Wake Forest is the ACC’s No. 5 seed, which is usually more than enough to make the final bracket. In a weak year for the conference, however, the Demon Deacons risk being left out of the field if they are upset in the ACC Tournament. Wake Forest has -185 odds for the NCAA Tournament ahead of Wednesday’s matchup with Boston College.
Bubble teams that are odds-on favorites to make the tournament include Xavier (-160), Wyoming (-185) and SMU (-140).
