New 'Apex Legends Legacy' Trailer Shows Off Valkyrie's Abilities

Shortly after releasing an eight-minute short film featuring the upcoming legend Valkyrie’s backstory, Respawn Entertainment uploaded a new cinematic trailer that shows off the new ace pilot’s abilities in action.

The initial reveal of Valkyrie introduced her as the daughter of Viper, a member of the Apex Predators mercenary group and one of the antagonists from “Titanfall 2.” Viper’s titan-of-choice was the Northstar, a light and agile mech equipped with a propulsion system and rocket pods. At the end of the trailer, there were brief shots of Valkyrie’s flight suit that looked oddly similar to a Northstar chassis.

This led fans to speculate that her abilities may be similar to the titan’s moveset, and it looks like the fans were right. Keeping in line with the latest season’s “Legacy” theme, Valkyrie’s abilities appear to be based directly on the Northstar titan’s armaments.

The trailer shows Valkyrie is capable of flight and firing a barrage of missiles from her shoulder-mounted rocket pods. This makes her the game’s newest Offensive Legend that can directly damage opponents with her abilities.

Judging by the trailer, she’s going to be a champion with incredible mobility thanks to her jetpack, and her ability to saturate an area with missiles makes a huge threat in the open areas of King’s Canyon and Olympus. However, this does mean that abilities might have little use while indoors, as tight rooms cramped corridors can make flying harder or open up Valkyrie to self-damage with her own rockets.

There aren’t any specifics yet as to how much damage each of her rocket does or how large the splash radius for each one is, but her ultimate ability may get hard-countered by someone like Gibraltar, Octane or Wraith. Gibraltar’s shield dome can absorb Valkyrie’s rockets while the ultimate abilities of Octane and Wraith can simply get entire squads out of dangerous situations.

A gameplay showcase of the new season “Legacy” is expected to happen on April 26, which will hopefully feature Valkyrie’s abilities from a player’s perspective. The new and exciting Arena mode is also set to be revealed in the demo.
