New 'Battlefield 1' Map Announced; Summer Update Details Revealed
DICE has revealed a new map called “Prise de Tahure" for “Battlefield 1.” The new map will soon be available to test on the Community Test Environment (CTE) servers, and the developer also released new details on its second upcoming DLC expansion for its Summer Update.
The “Prise de Tahure" map for “Battlefield 1” is set in the autumn after the Nivelle Offensive when the French forces were trying to defend the recaptured hills in the Butte-de-Tahure region from the German invaders.
“The frontline trench networks cut right through several villages facing obliteration from the constant skirmishing between German stormtroopers and French raiders,” DICE said in a blog post. “This is a war of attrition. Adaptability and tactics are the means to wear your adversary down.”
The map appears to be based on the Battle of the Hills which was fought from April-May 1917. “Prise de Tahure" map for “Battlefield 1” also seems like a continuation or expansion to the previously announced map called “Nivelle Nights,” which is scheduled to be released to Premium Pass holders this June. DICE hasn’t revealed a release date for the “Prise de Tehure" map, but the developer will have members of the CTE test it out to add further improvements until its release.
Speaking of the CTE, IBT reported yesterday that DICE’s David Sirland teased that a surprise was on its way to the CTE servers of “Battlefield 1” this Friday. It seems like the “Prise de Tehure” map will be arriving today for CTE players.
DICE also took the time to give an update on another previously announced DLC called “In The Name Of The Tsar.” DICE will be revealing the second expansion to “Battlefield 1” on June 10 during EA Play 2017 at the annual E3 conference in Los Angelese, according to GameSpot. The developer also said that “In The Name Of The Tsar” is scheduled to be released in “late summer.”
DICE also teased an update for the month of May which the developer says will deliver some tweaks to the base game. The developer did not give out specifics, but it seems like it will make it easier to browse playlists and join games.
“Coming soon, the May Update brings further improvements to the game. Fans of Operations will be extra pleased by this update; expect playlists for the mode and easier access to get quickly into the action,” DICE said. “Stay tuned for full update notes and details for the May Update.”
Lastly, DICE provided a short update on it Premium Friends feature on “Battlefield 1.” Premium Friends allows non-Premium Pass holders to play the paid DLC maps as long as they’ve been invited by a friend who’s already paid for the $50 Premium Pass.
The developer said that it’s wrapping up another test run of the feature and thanked Premium Pass holders who tried it out. DICE also teased that it has more plans for the future of Premium Friends.
DICE and EA have already committed to bringing monthly updates to “Battlefield 1,” and it looks like they’re keeping their promise to fans. Just last week, the developers officially released the Spring Update for “Battlefield 1” which included new weapons, ribbons and dog tags, as well as adding the ability to create and manage Platoons and improving support for the Medic class.
