New 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Trailer Teases Jon Snow Fate As Great War Looms
Jon Snow’s got a plan to defeat the Night King, but he’s going to have a heck of a time getting all of the Seven Kingdoms on board. A new trailer for Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” suggests the Warden of the North will attempt to get fellow leaders on board as winter — and an army of white walkers — closes in on them.
The clip opens with a voice over of Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) discussing strategy as Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) walks through a snowy, wooded area, all the while remaining mindful of her surroundings. The controversial character urges the listener to be constantly fighting a battle in her head, likely to have a leg up on any and all adversaries. A gate opens, and viewers see Jon Snow (Kit Harington) for a brief moment, walking with Tormund and another person just slightly out of view.

As images of Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and more flash before “Game of Thrones” fans eyes, Jon returns for a voice-over of his own. He recalls a time when the Starks fought alongside an unnamed family to take down a common threat, calling for unity amongst the leaders in the Seven Kingdoms as the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and his army get closer.
“For centuries our families fought together against their common enemy,” he says. “Despite their differences — together. We need to do the same if we’re going to survive because the enemy is real. It’s always been real.”
Battle scenes play out as Jon speaks, showing Daenerys’ army — comprised of unsullied and Dothraki fighters — storm the gate of what may be Casterly Rock. “Game of Thrones” fans catch a glimpse of the dragons, as well as Jaime, riding into a fiery fight on horseback. Tormund is shown in the Season 7 trailer taking on an unknown enemy in a physical fight before a scene of the Dothraki charging an enemy with dragons flying behind them.
As the “Game of Thrones” trailer ends, Sansa can be heard uttering an ominous poem. She speaks of a “lone wolf” dying as winter falls, as a mysterious person wearing the same furs as she, Jon and Tormund, rides possibly limp on a horse through snowfall. As she completes the rhyme, a figure believed to be Jon takes one final, fatal swing at an enemy with his sword.
“When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies with the paxil eyes,” Sansa says.
The newly released trailer follows footage shown during a Spanish exhibition, which teased the demise of House Lannister. According to Time, the “Game of Thrones” clip shown during the event showed Daenerys’ army storming the gates of Casterly Rock. The scene in question may have been the same scene featured in the trailer HBO put out on Wednesday, though there’s no way of knowing for sure.
A number of “Game of Thrones” fans seem to think Daenerys will use her right hand man, Tryion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and his vast knowledge of the inner workings of Casterly Rock to her advantage. She and her men will storm the castle, while Tyrion sneaks through tunnels below the ground to get to Cersei and Jaime.
Footage shown during the event teased far more than the Lannister’s downfall. According to reports, the Season 7 sneak peek also featured an unfamiliar maester at the Citadel, The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson), and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) training with Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman). Cersei’s undead muscle man was featured in the clip drawing his sword, seemingly bracing for combat.
This is the second official trailer the network’s released for Season 7 of “Game of Thrones.” The first hit the web in May and centered on the Great War. It opened with Cersei and the many leaders in the Seven Kingdoms preparing for the battle ahead.
It also provided some context for stills released weeks prior. One photo showed Daenerys arriving at what appears to be King’s Landing, looking on in awe as she and her inner circle reach the gates. Photos showed her and her confidants standing before something with looks of awe on their faces, though it was unclear what they were seeing.

We also see the mysterious castle in which Daenerys was previously photographed again. The first “Game of Thrones” Season 7 trailer seemingly confirmed she’ll be establishing a home base in Dragonstone, as rumored among Thronies, when the show returns. The city was once ruled by her ancestors, almost all of whom are now dead.
The early trailer showed Sansa and Littlefinger together, explaining a questionable photo of the duo released in a batch of stills from the upcoming installment of “Game of Thrones.” The preview suggests that rumors Littlefinger will get in Sansa’s head, urging her to step up and relinquish power from Jon may be true. The most recent trailer only furthers the speculation.
“Game of Thrones” Season 7 premieres Sunday, July 16 at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO. Are you ready to take on winter with Jon, Daenerys, Sansa, Arya and the rest of the Seven Kingdoms?
