KEY POINTS

  • "Sonic The Hedgehog" was launched by Sega in 1991
  • Rumors of a new "Sonic The Hedgehog" game compilation are rife online
  • Sega has not yet confirmed anything about a game collection

An online retailer may have revealed that Sega is planning to release a new "Sonic The Hedgehog Collection" for the character's 30th anniversary.

Japanese multinational video game developer and publisher Sega had previously said it has some exciting news for fans with plenty of announcements in tow. This includes digital content, new games and a lot more. If the latest listing by a French retailer is to go by, it looks like fans now have the idea of what one of those surprises would be.

Sogamely, the same retailer that previously leaked about "Sonic Colors Remaster," recently listed the "Sonic Collection" EU Version on its website. It has claimed that the game would launch on Sony's PlayStation 4. The game's title is most likely a placeholder and currently, there is no official confirmation that the said collection exists.

However, given the site's reputation for early information about "Sonic the Hedgehog," in addition to this being the character's anniversary year and that there is an upcoming sequel, the listing seemingly hints at the possibility of the game's imminent release. Last month, rumors about "Sonic Color Remaster" surfaced online after the game appeared on the projects page of the German production company IKSample.

A few days later, Sogamely listed on its website the game "Sonic Colors Ultimate Limited Edition Switch," giving much credence to rumors that the game is in the works. Industry insider Zippo also mentioned recently that "Sonic The Hedgehog 3" and "Sonic and Knuckles" would be getting their own re-releases very soon. Many fans believe that both "Sonic The Hedgehog 3" and "Sonic and Knuckles" would be in a collection along with the original "Sonic the Hedgehog" game and "Sonic Hedgehog 2."

"Sonic the Hedgehog" debuted on the Sega Genesis in 1991, and this year is the character's 30th anniversary. If a game compilation is indeed happening, it would be interesting to see what games would be included. Over the years, Sega has launched several "Sonic" compilations. These include the "Sonic Mega Collection" in 2002 and the "Sonic Gems Collection" in 2005.

Still, in the absence of an official confirmation or announcement from Sega, fans would be advised to temper their expectations about this rumored "Sonic The Hedgehog Collection."
