A new team linked to Campos racing is looking to enter Formula 1 in 2021, with Pascal Wehrlein as one of the drivers.

Team owner Adrian Campos and his partner Salvatore Gandolfo wanted to utilize F1’s major regulations overhaul in 2021, including the budget cap so they could register the Spanish team.

The team intends to get financial backing from Monaco Increase Management, otherwise known as MIM, which was founded by Gandolfo. The company lists Super Aguri's, Daniele Audetto, as their adviser.

Monaco based MIM group, which has been linked to Campos Racing that competes in Formula Two and Three, stated it had a team of former F1 engineers that are working on a preliminary study.

They claimed the team is at an advanced stage of negotiations with the present Formula 1 team and engine manufacturers to make sure they get the best partners for a competitive Spanish Formula One team in 2021.

Former Formula 1 driver Campos has been involved in several F1 projects, and most recently, he was the driving force behind the Hispania entry when he sold it before the F1 debut in 2010.

In response, there have been few positive notes from Formula 1 and the FIA concerning the new team joining their ranks in time for the overhaul in 2021.

Ross Brawn, the Formula 1 managing director, stated he is not particularly keen on rushing new teams during the first season after the regulation changes.

The FIA boss, Jean Todt, stated there had been no strong contact thus far for a reliable new team.

He added that the teams interested were not at the same level Haas was before it joined the grid in 2016.

Though Gandolfo stated it was a long-term project and he was aware of the substantial challenges, the MIM/ Campos partnership will proceed with its intention to join the Formula 1 grid in 2021.

Thus far, they are capitalizing on the regulation change at the time, which will mandate budget caps for all teams to level the playing field.

Brawn stated in August that a surprising number of entities had issued their interest in joining formula 1 in 2021. He made it clear, though, that the bar would be set very high, and the would-be entrants would have to wait for the time being.

There is a reason for the bureaucracy, though, considering three new teams that entered the grid in 2010 when a budget cap was proposed, are now defunct.
