KEY POINTS

  • The Giants could be in for rough season ahead after Daniel Bellinger suffers an injury
  • Brian Daboll will have to rely on two other key pieces to fill the void left by Bellinger
  • The Giants have a remarkable standing so far this season

The New York Giants are one of the surprise teams this NFL season, but the road ahead has slowly become rough.

First-year head coach Brian Daboll boasts of a 6-1 win-loss after their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, 23-17, last Sunday, October 23.

However, that last win over the Jaguars came with a cost.

Two players–offensive linemen Evan Neal and Ben Bredeson–reportedly suffered knee injuries that will sideline both players for some time.

The good news is that their injuries are not season-ending, meaning both could return at some point later on.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Giants' rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger.

According to Daboll, the 22-year-old player will be out indefinitely after he fractured his right eye socket during Sunday's win over the Jaguars.

Bellinger is set to undergo surgery to address the injury this week.

However, it remains to be seen if the former San Diego State Aztec can rejoin the Giants.

With Bellinger out, the Giants are expected to feel the rookie's absence.

This season, he caught 16 of 18 targets while also scoring three touchdowns in seven games.

He has been playing well with the Giants' first team since the summer up to the regular season.

In the meantime, Daboll will have no other recourse but to turn to the other tight ends in the mix–Tanner Hudson and Chris Myarick.

Hudson is a former Super Bowl champion when he was still with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. This season, he has so far caught three of his six targets.

On his part, Myarick has caught each of his five targets for the 2022-23 NFL season.

This was his second with the Giants after playing for the Miami Dolphins in 2020.

In related news, the Dolphins may be waiting on offers for seldom-used Mike Gesicki per a report by ESPN.

Gesicki has hardly been utilized this season, and a possible deal for the former Penn State Nittany Lions may happen before the November 1 NFL trade deadline.

The New Jersey native caught three of seven targets for 27 yards in the Dolphins' win on Sunday over the Pittsburgh Steelers, 16-10.
