KEY POINTS

  • The Jets add more backfield help with the acquisition of James Robinson
  • Robinson's alleged knee issues could be a problem
  • Travis Etienne will now be the Jaguars' primary ball carrier

The New York Jets have a void to fill in their backfield, and it appears they have addressed the problem.

According to sources in a report by ESPN, the Jets have acquired running back James Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a future pick.

It was also mentioned that New York would send a 2023 conditional sixth-round selection to Jacksonville.

However, this pick would become a fifth-rounder if Robinson can rush for 600 yards this season.

As of this writing, the 24-year-old player has rushed 340 yards so far.

Robinson is considered an inexpensive addition who will cost the Jets only about $500,000 against the Jets' salary cap for the 2022-23 NFL season.

He is set to become a restricted free agent after the season where New York will have the option to retain him for 2023.

The former Illinois State Redbird played his final game for the Jaguars on Sunday, October 23.

He played with only 12 offensive snaps and had no touches, the first time in his three-year NFL career.

Robinson has played 35 games for the Jags since joining the team as a free agent in 2020.

So far this season, Robinson has 81 carries for 340 yards and three touchdowns, plus nine catches for 46 yards and one touchdown across his name.

One thing about Robinson that needs to be cleared out is his reported knee soreness.

According to Jaguars head coach Doug Peterson, the Illinois native has been dealing with knee issues and this is the reason behind his absence from their game plan.

But the name of the running back has not appeared on the team's injury report.

"It's just soreness, and he was dealing with it a little bit in the game. I'm big about guys... I want to make sure they're—I know they're not always gonna be 100 percent in games—but I want them to be close. I want them to not worry about it from a mental standpoint," Peterson said in a report by the Florida Times-Union.

With Robinson out, the Jaguars will now turn to Travis Etienne as their primary ball carrier.
