Newborn Found Buried Alive At Cremation Site By Man Digging Pit For Dead Daughter
A man, who had gone to a cremation site to dig a pit for his dead daughter’s burial, was shocked when he found a newborn girl alive three feet below the ground. The incident took place in the India state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.
Police said Hitesh Kumar Sirohi’s wife gave birth to a seven-month premature girl Thursday. Unfortunately, the baby died within a few minutes and he went to the cremation site to bury his daughter.
"She [Sirohi’s wife] was admitted to a private hospital after she complained of labor pain on Wednesday. On Thursday, she gave birth to a seven-month premature girl, who died within a few minutes,” police officer Abhinandan Singh said.
As Sirohi was digging a pit at the cremation site “at a depth of three feet, the spade hit an earthen pot, which was pulled out. There was a baby girl lying in it."
Sirohi found the newborn breathing heavily and rushed her to a nearby hospital. The girl was then shifted to a private hospital where she was receiving treatment.
"On Saturday, the girl was referred to a higher center with better and more medical facilities. Her condition has improved," said the chief medical officer of Bareilly Vineet Shukla.
A probe was launched to find the newborn’s parents, however, as of Sunday, no details about her parents were known.
"As of now, her life has been saved. We are trying to trace the girl's mother," Singh told local media Sunday.
