The next Cristiano Ronaldo will now play with Lionel Messi in Barcelona.
Ronaldo and Messi ultimately dominated the past decade. The great rivalry still lives but just like in any other sports, a new generation will always rise. This seems to be the case for Barcelona this 2020. Braga’s Francisco Trincão , who is dubbed as the new Ronaldo, has decided to move to Barcelona to team up with Messi.
As ironic as it sounds, Barcelona has signed Trincão, who is not only regarded as a young Ronaldo but also one of the most highly rated youngsters in soccer world. Being one of the best clubs in history of soccer, Barca reportedly immediately put an asking price of more than half a billion dollars on Trincão’s head, CNN reported.
According to Barcelona's official website, Trincão is all set to join the Catalan club on July 1 after it paid Portuguese side Braga a fee of $34.3 million for his services. The bumper buy-out clause of $550 million is reportedly made to match rival offers for the extremely gifted player.
In his young soccer career, the 20-year-old has already turned heads inside the field. But what makes Trincão’s resume exceptional is his contributions as an integral part of the Braga team this season. He has helped Braga win the Portuguese League Cup this season, its first major title since 2016.
Trincão is believed to be a superstar in the making already scoring 3 goals and registering 6 assists in 21 games thus far.
The silky left-footed forward drew the eye of several of Europe's biggest clubs when he led Portugal's under-19s to victory at the 2018 European Championships, finishing the tournament with the most goals and most assists.
Coincidentally, another future Ronaldo recently made the headlines as well. 20-year-old Joao Felix burst into scene after being regarded as the next Ronaldo of Portugal and becoming the most expensive teenager of all time when he joined Atletico Madrid in a $137 million move from Benfica.
The move made Felix the second most expensive teenager in football history, but his career in LaLiga has yet to truly ignite. However, the forward's natural-born talents are beyond doubt as he faces up to the decade when Ronaldo is expected to leave the stage for their native Portugal.
But unlike Trincão, who seemed please to have been given the opportunity to play with Messi, Felix already displayed some sort of dislike on the Barcelona captain. It will be remembered that Messi and Felix had an intense face-off after a heated exchange during the Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona match last month.
