Neymar Surprisingly Not Included In Barcelona's Top 5 Best Forwards Of All Time
KEY POINTS
- Neymar didn't make the top 5 of a recent list of Barcelona's best forwards of all time
- Neymar was once viewed as Lionel Messi's heir in Barcelona
- Ronaldinho was ranked 2nd best Barcelona forward after Messi
Brazilian superstar Neymar didn’t make Barcelona’s top 5 best forwards of all time.
During his time in Barcelona, Neymar progressed into a soccer superstar playing alongside Lionel Messi. He was widely viewed as another solid addition to the already stacked Barcelona squad in 2013. As expected, Neymar played an integral role in Barca and earned 3 titles with the club.
However, despite being one of the best players to ever play at Camp Nou, reputable soccer website Squawka only ranked the Brazilian 7th on their recent list of Best Barcelona forwards of this century.
Neymar joined and left Barcelona via transfers plagued with controversies. But on the field, the 28-year-old was nothing but sensational.
With his incredible pace and dazzling dribbling skills, Neymar definitely owned that left flank for years. Aside for being a crucial part of Barcelona’s second treble, he was also the architect of their miraculous 6-1 comeback against PSG. Neymar played a total of 186 games and bagged 105 goals for the club. Many belived that he was destined to be Messi’s heir, until he suddenly left for Paris.
The other two Barcelona stars who were ranked above Neymar evidently never reached his stardom. Pedro, who was ranked 6th, was never the most talented player, but his work ethic was unparalleled and his impressive finishing made him a deadly wing-forward. David Avilla who made the Top 5, was a deadly finisher as well but undeniably, he owned the spot for being an unselfish player on the field.
Samuel Eto’o earned the no. 4 spot while Messi’s current co-star Luis Suarez sits at no. 3. While this may come as a surprise for new generation Barcelona fans, Brazilian legend Ronaldinho was the next best Barcelona forward of all time after Messi.
Ronaldinho was a rare phenomenon and his greatness lifted the Blaugrana up into being great themselves. For some, modern Barcelona simply would not exist had Ronaldinho not taught an entire club, an entire city and an entire country how to dream again.
Of course, without a doubt, Messi is the best forward to ever play for Barcelona. In 718 games, the 6-time Bllon d’Or winner was able to score a record-breaking 627 goals. Widely regarded as the greatest player in the world and quite probably the greatest player of all time, Messi will not only be remembered for being the face of Barcelona but also as the king of modern soccer.
