KEY POINTS

  • The Jaguars may opt to pick Hutchinson as their top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft
  • Hutchinson could be a better fit for the Lions who need an edge-rusher
  • Hutchinson is one of the top prospects in this year's draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars will have the honor of picking first in the 2022 NFL Draft, but it remains unclear who they fancy.

However, one name that may be too hard to pass up is Aidan Hutchinson.

Aidan Hutchinson, who won the 2021 Ted Hendricks Award as college football’s top defensive end, is considered one of the top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.

However, adding Hutchinson does not guarantee the Jaguars will be able to turn things around.

The NFL team is under the radar right now with the direction of the Jags unclear.

Urban Meyer barely lasted a year, while general manager Trent Baalke has been criticized for handling the ballclub.

Regardless of their status, there is a big chance that Hutchinson ends up with the Jaguars.

Being a top prospect, the best to expect is to see Hutchinson perform his best with the opportunities he will get.

However, there is also a chance that the 2021 Lombardi Award winner could slide down the draft order of picks.

Coaching staffs and front offices around the league claim that Baalke may instead opt to go for Travon Walker.

"What I keep hearing over and over and over again is that Trent Baalke has a history of taking the athletic specimen over maybe the sure-thing prospect," Peter Schrager said when he appeared on “Good Morning Football.”

Should that be the case, Hutchinson could be an option for the Detroit Lions who will be picking second.

The 21-year-old has already said on record that being drafted by the Lions would help him in his transition to the NFL.

Moreover, Detroit has an immediate need for an edge-rusher–making Hutchinson’s selection sensible.

“It would definitely be cool,” Hutchinson said via NFL.com. “I’d be living close to home. It would definitely make the transition a bit easier to the NFL just being so close to home and close to my parents.”

Hutchinson is described as strong, flexible and explosive, someone who is likely to earn a shot at Pro Bowls or become an All-Pro playmaker.

Like most incoming rookies, there is room for improvement. That includes broadening his rush menu and production options.
