  • The timing of Brady’s sudden change of heart on retirement raises questions about Arians’ decision to call it a career

Bruce Arians has retired from NFL head coaching, and he is set to take on a higher role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

However, this hardly addresses rumors that he and the star quarterback of the franchise had beef when both worked together.

As far as the 69-year-old NFL executive is concerned, the treatment he gave seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady is nothing out of the ordinary.

Their communication was similar to how Arians treated other players during his NFL tenure.

"All the players, every one of them has gotten cussed out, including him. That's just part of me. We have a great relationship. People gotta write sh-t. It couldn't be further from the truth," Arians was quoted saying in a tweet by scribe Ari Meirov with Brady in attendance.

They won Super Bowl LV together, but things just appeared to turn sour last season when Tampa Bay fell short of making it to the last dance again.

The issue got even hotter when Brady initially announced his retirement.

Brady would backtrack on that and announce he would play another season.

But unlike Brady, Arians was firm with his decision to call it a day.

Figuring out the series of events, pundits felt that there was something more to the story with insinuations that Brady and Arians simply did not see eye-to-eye.

Arians will be moving up to the Bucs front office, with Todd Bowles taking over as Tampa Bay’s head coach.

Arians explained that the decision to retire was something he had discussed with his family.

Succession was something he also cited, a reason why he wanted his erstwhile defensive coordinator to pick up from where he left off, ESPN reported.

"A number of people have already asked, 'Why are you stepping away from a chance to go to the Hall of Fame and win another Super Bowl?' Because I don't give a s--- about the Hall of Fame," Arians explained during a press conference. "Succession is way important to me. This has been my dream for a long time. Guys that know me, they knew I wanted one of my guys to take over."
