  • Jay Gruden is looking forward to coaching in the NFL again
  • Joining his brother Jon Gruden is unlikely because there are no openings
  • Gruden wants to join a team with the right culture next time around

The number of NFL coaches getting the boot this 2019-20 season saw a number of familiar names. Among them is Jay Gruden, who was given the pink slip by the Washington Redskins. He was the first one to get the ax after the Redskins loss to the New England Patriots. Washington was 0-5 at the time.

Since then, everything has been silent on Gruden's end. But the good news is that the door towards another NFL head coaching stint remained open. Several NFL teams parted with their head coaches as well, not to mention more happening at the end of the regular season.

For his part, the 52-year-old weighing his options would be best. Right now, he mentioned in a report from Omnisport that he will consider a job only if he is a right fit culturally.

"I could take a year off if I don't get that opportunity I'm looking for, we'll have to see what's available. Some of these jobs aren't easy," said Gruden.

One team that would make sense for the 52-year-old is the Oakland Raiders. Jon Gruden, his brother, currently calls the shots over there. Critics anticipate that this is the place where he would end up next. Most feel that he would be joining his brother next NFL season, ESPN reported.

However, the younger Gruden feels the move is unlikely right now. He pointed out how the Raiders have a full complement of staff, feeling the move to help out in Oakland would be a long shot for now.

"He's not got any job openings right now. If anything comes at a later time then I'd have to look at it," Gruden said.

So all Gruden can do right now is enjoy his time off and regroup. He sort of expected the firing to come. He was aware that changes had to be made and revealed his frustrations with some of the Redskins players. Regardless, he says they parted amicably and that he is prepared to move on from that NFL chapter of his life.
