NFL Rumors: Odell Beckham Jr. Has Sly Comment About Returning To Cleveland
KEY POINTS
- Odell Beckham Jr. did not rule out returning to the Cleveland Browns
- Beckham tore his ACL for the second time in the Rams' Super Bowl LVI victory over the Bengals
- Deshaun Watson's arrival in Cleveland could entice Beckham to give it another go
Fresh off his Super Bowl stint with the Los Angeles Rams, Odell Beckham Jr. took time to respond to a fan’s inquiry about him returning to the Cleveland Browns.
Beckham simply responded with “Lol that’s an interesting one,” via Twitter which has opened a discussion about whether he might really be coming back or it was just him messing around with the fan.
Cleveland.com reported that Beckham has been thinking about signing with the Browns because of his camaraderie with the players, aside from quarterback Baker Mayfield.
However, him clashing again with Mayfield will not be a problem soon after the Browns acquired embattled quarterback Deshaun Watson and a 2024 sixth-round pick from the Houston Texans for the Browns’ 2022, 2023, 2024 first-rounders, a 2023 third-round pick, and their fourth-round picks in the 2022 and 2024 draft.
One thing going for a Beckham comeback in Cleveland is that team owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam developed a close friendship with the player in his two-year stint with the franchise.
Add in the fact that defensive end Myles Garrett is a staunch supporter of Beckham, the call for him to rejoin the Browns grows ever stronger.
The problem with Beckham for this season is that he tore his left ACL during the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals and will likely miss the entirety of the 2022-23 season to recover.
Beckham tore the same ligament back in October of 2020, and it took him almost 11 months before he was able to take the field once again.
He may have lost a step since his days as a member of the New York Giants, but it cannot be denied that the 29-year-old wide receiver from New Orleans, Louisiana can still make an impact on the field.
It was Beckham who broke the scoring drought in the Super Bowl as he scored the first touchdown of the game off a 17-yard pass from Matt Stafford in the first quarter and then made a 35-yard gain for the Rams in the second quarter before his ACL gave out on him.
Seeing him on offense alongside Donovan Peoples-Jones and the newly acquired Amari Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys with Watson throwing them the ball, the Browns’ receiving unit gain another weapon in their quest for a Super Bowl.
Beckham’s potential return to Cleveland could be announced in the coming days as the NFL offseason continues to roll on.
