NFL Rumors: Tagovailoa Cleared, Joins Workouts To Raise Interest For Coming Draft
KEY POINTS
- Tagovailoa gets to show NFL teams what he can do
- Tagovailoa could still end up with Dolphins
- Tagovailoa out to prove why he is one of this NFL class' top QBs
Tua Tagovailoa is one of the top quarterbacks seen in the coming NFL Draft but his hip injury is a concern. However, he gets to prove critics wrong after getting the go-signal to join the coming NFL Draft workouts.
The 22-year-old quarterback from the Alabama Crimson Tide is widely considered one of the top quarterbacks NFL teams could consider. However, some teams are wary of his overall health since the Samoan-American has been out since November. Tagovailoa underwent surgery and has since been on the road to recovery.
It was Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine who reported that Tagovailoa has been given clearance to start NFL Draft workouts. Now, teams like the Miami Dolphins can make the right assessment on whether the 2018 Orange Bowl MVP would be worth drafting for the coming NFL season. Tagovailoa is one of the top three quarterbacks in the coming class. Joe Burrow is expected to be the top overall pick and will likely end with the Cincinnati Bengals. The other is Justin Herbert, a name most saw as likely being the second-best quarterback in the mix due to Tagovailoa's spate of injuries.
Speaking of the Dolphins, it appeared things did not bode well when they spoke to Tagovailoa at the Combine. In a previous post, a source mentioned how Miami hardly seemed interested and gave any indication that Tagovailoa was the guy they were looking for.
"No one was excited. They didn't give any indication of 'he's their guy.' He felt weird like is this a joke? ... He's not turned off, but it was just weird," the source said.
If the Dolphins pass, Herbert is likely to be it. But then again, the 22-year-old from the Oregon Ducks got his share of criticism at the Combine. It appeared he lacked the self-confidence any NFL team would want to see in a budding star, casting doubts on whether he could be fit.
Regardless, the Bengals and the Dolphins are not the only teams in search of a quarterback. Other NFL teams expected to pick a QB include the Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
