NFL Rumors: What The Seattle Seahawks Are Doing In Free Agency, Earl Thomas Likely Going Elsewhere

One of the Seattle Seahawks’ best players in franchise history has become the biggest name in free agency. Earl Thomas is the No.1 player on the market, and it appears that the last remaining member of the Legion of Boom is ready to move on.

Thomas is probably going to get a lucrative contract from a team other than the Seahawks, who didn’t give the safety the extension he wanted before the start of last season. It’s not as if Seattle is looking to spend big money elsewhere since the team hasn’t been rumored to be interested in the top players available.

Thomas isn’t the only starter that will leave Seattle in free agency. Guard J.R. Sweezy has reportedly agreed to sign with the rival Arizona Cardinals.

Backup quarterback Brett Hundley has also reportedly moved onto the Cardinals. He didn't attempt a single pass in his one season with the Seahawks.

Cornerback Justin Coleman has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Restricted free agent Akeem King is expected to earn a bigger role with Seattle in place of Coleman in the 2019 season.

Restricted free agent Quinton Jefferson could be had by another NFL team. The Seahawks have decisions to make regarding fullback Tre Madden and tackle George Fant, who are also restricted free agents.

The Seahawks placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Frank Clark. The defensive end plans to hold out for a longer contract instead of signing the one-year deal that’s worth more than $17 million guaranteed.

Clark can sign with another team, and Seattle would receive two first-round picks in return.

Russell Wilson is the only Seahawks’ player that’s set to make more money than Clark next season. One year away from free agency, Wilson could sign a record-setting contract at some point this offseason.

Wilson had arguably his best season in 2018, leading the Seahawks back to the postseason after they lost several key starters. The quarterback will likely have another difficult task in front of him after what could be a second straight disappointing offseason for Seattle.
