NFL Trade Rumors: Odell Beckham Being Pursued By Teams, 49ers Eyeing Big Moves In 2019 Offseason
The New York Giants have made it clear publicly that they are not actively trying to trade Odell Beckham Jr, but discussions about the wide receiver’s future won’t go away. After the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to send Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders, there is continued speculation that there’s at least a chance New York might trade their star player.
The Giants reportedly listened to offers for Beckham a year ago, but they haven’t tried to deal the receiver since signing him to a $95 million contract. There were vague rumors last week that the Cleveland Browns were making a play for Beckham, though the two teams completed a deal that didn’t involve Beckham.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano noted on “Get Up!” Monday that NFL teams are making calls to New York because they believe the Giants would trade Beckham for the right price. The San Francisco 49ers might one of the teams that hope the Giants will make the three-time Pro Bowler available.
ESPN’s Jordan Raanan has reported that the 49ers would be interested in making a trade for Beckham. San Francisco was thought to be a possible destination last offseason when it looked like New York might trade him before the draft.
San Francisco never appeared to be in heavy discussions with Pittsburgh, but they were once thought to be among the most likely landing spots for Brown. The 49ers would like to add a star playmaker after two straight losing seasons under head coach Kyle Shanahan. Season-ending injuries to both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jerick McKinnon derailed their 2018 campaign.
The 49ers are seventh in the NFL with more than $50 million to spend under the salary cap. If they aren’t able to acquire a top offensive player, they could use some of that money elsewhere.
NBC Sports’ Peter King has speculated that the 49ers could make an offer for Dee Ford. The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly open to trading the pass rusher, whom they recently hit with the franchise tag.
San Francisco could also be an option for free-agent safety Earl Thomas. Thomas was on his way to making a seventh Pro Bowl before a broken leg ended his 2018 season.
