For several marquee NFL players, it’s been uncertain if injuries would keep them off the field in Week 1 of the 2021 season. With every team set to play in the coming days, it appears that a few big names will be able to make their debuts Sunday.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich announced Friday that quarterback Carson Wentz will start Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. After being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason, Wentz missed all of preseason.

Wentz has recovered from a foot injury that threatened to keep him sidelined for the first month of the season. The quarterback is coming off the worst season of his NFL career, by far.

All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson underwent the same foot surgery as Wentz, and he appears likely to start, as well, for the Colts.

Wentz was benched and didn’t play the final month of the 2020 season. New York Giants running Saquon Barkley didn’t make it beyond Week 2 after suffering a torn ACL

Barkley’s status for the season opener has been murky all offseason. The Giants star didn’t play in the preseason. Barkley is he’s expected to play in Week 1 as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback.

The Giants host the Denver Broncos Sunday.

Barkley’s former teammate, Odell Beckham Jr., missed the second half of last season with a torn ACL. Beckham is listed as questionable on Friday’s Cleveland Browns’ injury report.

Cleveland visits the Kansas City Chiefs in arguably Sunday’s most highly anticipated matchup.
