Teen idol Nick Jonas is stepping away from his brothers and going on tour in January with his new band The Administration.

Jonas, 17, the youngest member of the boy band the Jonas Brothers, told fans in a Twitter message that he would play 14 dates with his solo project, starting in Dallas on January 2 and ending in Berkeley, California on January 30.

I am so excited! Jonas tweeted late on Monday. I just have to say thanks to my brothers for being as supportive as they've been.

Called Nick Jonas and The Administration, the band releases their first single on Wednesday and their debut album, Who I Am in February. The teen singer and songwriter formed the band to work on songs not quite right for the Jonas Brothers, his representatives said.

But Jonas assured fans that his side project does not mean the end of the Jonas Brothers, one of the most successful U.S. boy bands of recent years and stars of their own Disney Channel TV show JONAS.

This is something that can definitely co-exist with the Jonas Brothers, he told People magazine on Tuesday. But he said performing without his brothers Joe and Kevin will be strange. I've never really stood center stage before. It's going to be different but I'm looking forward to it.

Nick Jonas and The Administration will be making their national TV debut on Wednesday in Los Angeles at a Grammy Awards nominations concert.
