Nicki Minaj has opened up about how motherhood changed her as a person and how she influenced hip-hop in an interview. She also discussed the negativity surrounding rap culture.

The 39-year-old rapper, who welcomed a baby boy with her husband Kenneth Petty on Sept. 30, 2020, admitted that embracing motherhood has made her more "grounded" during her guesting on Joe Budden TV's official YouTube channel.

She also recalled that when she was still pregnant, she used to watch a lot of videos about pregnancy and how regular women were documenting their journey.

"I was just online googling and youtubing pregnant women all day," she said. "Regular women documenting their journey, answering questions. I was consumed with that."

Minaj went on to share how she has helped change hip-hop culture. "I would never see any female rapper wearing pink hair," she added. "Pink hair became a part of that starter kit."

"Every female rapper will put on a pink wig at some point," she said further. "And I remember that was just the Nicki Minaj thing. That's why when I said 'pink wig, thick a-s' — that's an iconic Nicki Minaj line because that's what she wears."

The rapper also shared that people usually judge those who are into rap and treat them like bad guys.

"In my opinion, rap is the only culture that, from the beginning of time, has been vilified," she explained. "From the very beginning, we have been treated like the bad guy… We're held to a different level of judgment."

During the interview, the rapper also reflected on her social media presence and how netizens used to troll her daily. "I was one of the first people to be shi-ted on the internet," she recalled. "Every day I would go on, and it was some new story, some made up story or bad picture

Born Onika Tanya Maraj, Minaj started her career with the studio album, "Ashanti," which came out on April 2, 2002. She married Petty in 2019.
