Nintendo Switch Price, Release Date: Retailer Leaks Reveal It's Cheaper Than PS4 and Xbox One
The price for the Nintendo Switch has apparently leaked by a retailer--and it’s pretty low.
The website of Toys “R” Us Canada listed the Nintendo Switch for $329.99 Canadian dollars, about $245 U.S. dollars, which rounds up to $249.
The product page was since taken down by the retailer.
The price for the Nintendo Switch could boost sales, as it would be more affordable for customers. The product can be a bargain compared to other consoles, like the Xbox One and PS4, both for $299. Sony’s PS4 Pro costs $399. The flexibility of the Nintendo Switch, which can be used as a portable and at-home device, makes the low price even better.
The Nintendo Switch was revealed in October.
The console is placed on the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV. When the Nintendo Switch is lifted from the dock, the system automatically goes on portable mode. Gamers can play simultaneously whether in their living room or out on the street. When the Nintendo Switch is on portable mode gamers can play by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers on the side of the console.
“The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment,” the company said in a release.
“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, said last month in a statement. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”
The official price of the console will be announced until Nintendo’s event in January 2017. At the event, full game demonstrations, the exact launch date, product configuration and related specifics will also be revealed.
The Nintendo Switch will be available a few months later in March.
