North Carolina Teen Shoots 77-Year-Old Grandmother To Death On Mother's Day, Arrested
A teenager was arrested and charged with murder after he shot his 77-year-old grandmother to death on Mother’s Day.
The shocking incident took place in a home at 220, Hubert McLean Avenue, near McManus Street in Robeson County of Red Springs, North Carolina, on Sunday (May 10). According to the Red Springs Police Department, the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Justin Penn, was arrested Sunday evening for murdering his grandmother, Mary Penn.
Officers found Mary unresponsive inside the house with a gunshot wound to her torso. Her family members and neighbors who witnessed the incident told police that Justin shot his grandmother.
Justin was at home when the officers arrived and he later confessed to the slaying. He was immediately taken into custody.
Justin was charged with first-degree murder and was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center. He was being held without a bond.
The motive behind the murder was unknown. An investigation was ongoing.
The investigators have requested anyone with information about the shooting to call the Red Springs Police Department at 910-843-3454. The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the police in the investigation.
The attacks on elderly people were reported earlier also. An elderly Maryland couple were shot in a veteran cemetery in Bear, Delaware, on Friday (May 8). The 85-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries. Her 86-year-old husband was taken to hospital with critical injuries suffered from the gunshot fired by an unknown gunman, who was later found dead in the nearby area. The gunman had exchanged shots with the police who had arrived at the scene. It was not clear whether the suspect died of a self-inflicted injury or in the police firing.
In another incident, a 61-year-old woman from Denver, Colorado, was shot to death when an unidentified gunman fired multiple shots at her vehicle. Kim Phok was on her way to work when she was shot in the area between Interstate-70 and Colorado Boulevard. The responding officers found her in her car. She told the officers that she had severe pain in her stomach. She was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she was treated for several days and finally succumbed to her injuries.
