A North Carolina woman received the gift of a lifetime on Mother's Day, and it was a surprise to all involved.

Vielka Roman, her fiancé Al, and her sister Neris are now a lot wealthier after Neris purchased a $1 lottery ticket for Roman following a meal on Sunday. She purchased a ticket from her sister's favorite game, Carolina Cash 5.

Thinking nothing of it at the time, Roman and her fiancé continued their festivities and headed to the mountains the following day. Along the way, Roman decided to ask Al to check the numbers on the ticket.

It turns out the ticket was worth $1,354,174, the third largest jackpot in Carolina Cash 5 history, according to a North Carolina Education Lottery press release.

"I was looking at the app on the phone and I saw confetti burst," said Al. "I had to check the numbers five times to make sure they were real."

Once the couple realized they won, they headed right back to Raleigh to claim their prize. After required state and federal withholdings, Roman took home $958,078.

"We just moved here, just bought a house," Roman said in the press release. "It will be nice to have room to breathe. Neris can have more time to plant in her garden. We will be able to spend more time with each other as a family."

Roman plans to use the money to pay off her mortgage and car and to help her family.
