A 41-year-old nurse allegedly tried to kill a man in Gold Coast, Australia, because she thought he had raped her teenage friend, court documents revealed.
Kristy Lee Edwards drank four bottles of beer and drove to the unnamed 29-year-old man's home in Gold Coast on the night of March 7, before allegedly attempting to stab him through his security door, Gold Coast Bulletin reported, citing police. Authorities said the woman allegedly knifed him five times.
"You raped (someone I know). I am going to kill you, I want you dead," Edwards allegedly told the man as she broke glass at the front of his home, according to police.
However, the man, who is an Uber driver, claimed in documents filed in the Supreme Court that he had consensual sex with the teenage girl, who was not named, after paying her around $15,000.
“I think in total I gave her around $12,000 to $15,000 for sex,” the man said in the statement, adding that he allegedly made money from the stock market.
According to the court papers, he told police that the teenager allegedly approached him on social media and offered sex in exchange for $500 because she was struggling financially. The 29-year-old told the court that he had sex with the girl three hours before Edwards allegedly came to his home.
Prior to the alleged attack, Edwards reportedly hugged her daughter and told her that she was going out to buy cigarettes before allegedly taking two kitchen knives with her.
Edwards allegedly "triple-checked" the address of the Uber driver from a parcel sent to the teenager to make sure she did not "kill the wrong person," according to the documents. The nurse allegedly learned about the supposed rape days before taking matters into her own hands.
During the confrontation, the man armed himself with a shovel after Edwards allegedly attempted to stab his son, the documents said. An officer then arrived at the scene and arrested the nurse for alleged willful damage.
Edwards allegedly told cops at the scene that she would kill the man "if police did not do something."
“I had believed she was trying to kill me and if the security screen wasn’t locked she would have stabbed me and killed me,” the man said in a statement to the court.
Police are investigating the rape allegation.
Edwards has no criminal history. She is now facing charges of attempted murder, attempted burglary and committing an indictable offense.
She is out on bail but subject to surety. Edwards is now residing with her family in New South Wales, has been placed under curfew and will have to report to police three times a week.
Edwards was jailed for more than 100 days following the alleged attack.
