A 22-year-old man from New York City has been arrested for shooting his own mother to death after she told him to get a job.

Musa Camara was taken into custody on Tuesday after his mother, 39-year-old Fatoumata Danson, was found dead inside her apartment with a gunshot wound to her eye. Camara, who was nabbed in a location not too far from the crime scene, still had the murder weapon in his possession at the time of the arrest.

According to the authorities, Camara also fired shots at a random passerby as he fled the crime scene. Fortunately, the stranger did not sustain injuries.

The mother and son reportedly had an argument, during which Danson told Camara that he should get a job. The altercation then led to the shooting.

"He's a lazy (expletive)…and my sister told him to get a job, threw him out of the house…and this was his reaction," Yaku Basangari, the victim's brother, said as per NBC New York.

Camara began acting in a bizarre manner when he was taken to the police station. He even stripped off his clothes while inside the cell, said a report from the New York Post. He was then transferred to Metropolitan Hospital where he underwent a psychiatric evaluation.

The results of Camara's psychiatric evaluation were not immediately released, but he was later charged with second-degree murder, the New York Police Department confirmed on Wednesday.

It was found that Danson had a protection order against Camara. She also had a domestic violence panic button inside her home which, according to the police, she may have hit prior to the deadly attack.

Danson's relatives are mourning her sudden and shocking demise. Danson, who was originally from The Gambia, moved to New York City with her family in the mid-1990s in search of a better life.

According to Bangsari, Danson was a lovely and kind woman. "She always smiled and laughed," he recalled. He also said that he wanted his nephew to "rot in jail for the rest of his life."

Mohamed Camara, Danson's other son, has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral costs.

Camara remained in prison as of Thursday. Details about his bail plea remain unknown.

Just last month, a man in Utah fatally shot his mother at the dinner table in front of his younger sisters. He was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail.
