Obama Piles More Sanctions On Iran
As promised, Barack Obama has racheted up the sanctions against Iran, targeting international companies trying to circumvent the United States' current sanctions to do business with Iran's energy and petrochemical industries through its cental bank.
Congress prepared its own sanctions against Tehran as well, and both the House and Senate will vote on the Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act on Wednesday.
"It updates and expands U.S. sanctions, and counters Iran's efforts to evade them. The bill sends a clear message to the Iranian regime that the U.S. is committed, through the use of sanctions, to preventing Iran from crossing the nuclear threshold.," House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen stated.
